The aim of this project is to give all of you a beautiful wristband when you enter the gates.
That is all 13.500 of you :)
The wristband design will draw inspiration from two things: AfrikaBurn’s theme and the mythology of the San, a nomadic tribe of Bushmen living in South Africa since literally the dawn of man.
The 2019 theme - “Ephemeropolis, the City of Transience” - was inspired by the eternal cycle of becoming, being and disintegration.
But while we watch things come and go I belief there is a deeper meaning to all of it. Nothing Lasts... But Nothing is Lost.
The San knew of this divine connection between all there is. They believed in the concept of “Thinking Strings”, threads of consciousness (or thoughts) interwoven with the sounds of nature. With their help, the San believed, a seeker is able to ascend to the spiritual realm.
With these ideas guiding my creation I want to honor the people of these native lands which deep insights we are just rediscovering in our temporary culture, the AfrikaBurn Tribe.
AfrikaBurns's great artworks are often hand-made using natural materials. The wristband, I believe, should honor this tradition.
The wristbands will be made from fabric, giving the wristband a nice, haptic touch.
Aluminum seals have been chosen for closure, since I strongly believe in not using any one-way products made from plastic. If you interested to know why please take a look here and here.

I started going to Burns in 2010, when I went to my first Burning Man. And oh boy, was I blown away - the sense of community, the open mindset, the immense wealth of creativity and - most of all - the feeling that we see each other as for who we are. Not a role, not a job, but a human being. I found my home and till this day that's where my heart is.
Becoming a Burner was also a personal journey for me to find out how i can contribute, of what i can bring in.
And this was my idea: At Burning Man you don't get a wristband when you enter the gates. But i like wristbands and i think other people do too. So in 2011 I started to create wirstbands for Burning Man. A lot of people liked the idea so it turned into my personal art project - The Burning Man Wirstband Project. Through this project I became connected with a lot of different Burner groups and artists and i started to explore the regional Burns, like AfrikaBurn.
A lot of things happened since then and now I am an active part of the community, being involved in many art projects and doing design and communication work for Burns and related events.
